Car wash boys

August 9, 2005

carwashLast Sunday, I had the privilege of bringing my partner’s car to a nearby car wash shop for a much needed clean-up. The shop was not really a shop actually. It was just a little space along the sidewalk in one of the major roads in Q.C. The service includes, the typical car body wash over, interior vacuum and tire black application. All for a cheap price of P50. In less than 30 minutes, the once soaked and dirty car was all cleaned up inside and out. Before leaving, I gave the car wash boy a P10 tip (yes, I admit I’m stingy when it comes to giving out service TIPs) for his services. The boy was prolly in his early twenties, with a lanky body frame. I know if given a chance, he would rather stay at home and probably study. That is if he is currently studying at all. And I also wonder, how much is the car wash shop owner paying his boys? Probably not too much, considering the hard work and occupational health risk such work entails. But then, it is an honest way of earning a living. Much better than bumming around.
